If you have an upcoming dental crown treatment, then you’re probably wondering what is involved with your appointment. Our dentist, Dr. Mike Roussel, is more than happy to help you because sometimes knowing everything about the treatment can help you prepare for your appointment. All in all, this might even help you feel more comfortable in the dental chair. So, the treatment steps involved with dental crown placement include:

Step No. 1: Your dentist will numb the tooth and surrounding gums with a local anesthetic. If necessary, he will provide you with light sedation.

Step No. 2: Your dentist will shave a portion of the tooth enamel. This makes room for the restoration to fit comfortably over the tooth.

Step No. 3: Your dentist will make a mold of your tooth and smile and will send it to a dental lab. At the lab, technicians will custom make your permanent crown.

Step No. 4: Your dentist will cover your tooth with a temporary crown so you can use it while you wait for your permanent crown to be created.

Step No. 5: When your crown is made and sent to our office, you will come in for a second visit. There, your dentist will secure the crown over the tooth with strong dental cement.
